If you're considering a psychological evaluation, you may be wondering whether you have to travel to an office or if it can be completed from home.
The answer is: sometimes.
Advances in telehealth have made it possible for many parts of the evaluation process to be completed remotely. Depending on the type of evaluation you need and where you live, online psychological evaluations may be an option.
Which Evaluations Can Be Done Through Telehealth?
Not every evaluation can be completed entirely online, but many include telehealth as part of the process.
At Stratus Psychological, telehealth is available for many evaluation services, allowing clients to complete portions of the process from the comfort of their own home. Depending on the type of evaluation, telehealth may be used for:
Intake appointments
Feedback appointments
FAA Fast Track evaluations
VA disability evaluations
Some evaluations, such as ADHD and autism evaluations, still require in-person testing. This is especially true when certain standardized assessments need to be administered face-to-face.
The best way to know what applies to your situation is to discuss your specific evaluation during your initial consultation.
What Are the Benefits of Online Psychological Evaluations?
For many people, telehealth makes the evaluation process much more convenient.
Some of the benefits include:
Less travel time
More flexibility with scheduling
Access to services if you live outside West Michigan
The ability to complete portions of the evaluation in a familiar environment
For some people, being in their own home can also help reduce the stress or anxiety that sometimes comes with a first appointment.
Is Online Testing as Accurate?
This is one of the most common questions people ask.
When appropriate, telehealth evaluations follow the same professional standards as in-person services. If an evaluation requires in-person testing to provide accurate results, that recommendation will be made from the beginning.
The goal is always to choose the approach that provides the most reliable information—not simply the most convenient one.
Can I Complete an Evaluation if I Live Outside Michigan?
In many cases, yes.
Through PSYPACT, Dr. Jessi Manning is authorized to provide telehealth services in many participating states across the country.

One important thing to know is that eligibility is based on where you are physically located at the time of your appointment, not necessarily the state where you live.
For example, if you live in Michigan but are on vacation in California, telehealth may not be available during that appointment. On the other hand, someone who lives in California but is temporarily visiting family in a participating state may still be eligible for telehealth services.
If you're unsure whether telehealth services are available where you live, simply ask during your consultation.
What Should I Expect During a Telehealth Appointment?
A telehealth appointment looks very similar to an in-person conversation.
You'll meet through a secure video platform, discuss your concerns, answer questions, and complete any portions of the evaluation that are appropriate to conduct remotely.
Before your appointment, you'll receive instructions about technology requirements and anything you'll need to have available.
What Matters Most
Whether your evaluation is completed in person, through telehealth, or a combination of both, the goal remains the same—to provide accurate, objective information that helps answer your questions.
Every evaluation is different, and the approach is based on what will provide the most meaningful and reliable results for your situation.
